Um, yeah.

Fri Jan 23, 2009, 3:15 PM
It's a new semester up in Fort Collins; it's also a New Year. I made some resolutions, so we'll see how well those go over. Thoughts of all the stuff I'm going to have to do for classes are already overwhelming me, in a sense, and it's mildly scary to think of all the other things that I want to add on top of that. On the bright side, I have a creative writing class this semester, 311A (fiction), so there should be new things up at some point in the semester. Though I want to take any sort of creative writing talent I pick up from this major and throw it into copyediting, an exercise we did the first day sparked my interest in writing. We'll see where that takes me. I've realized, with Kim's help, that I haven't been drawing much, if at all, lately and to change that I added it to my list of resolutions. So far I haven't done anything with it, but I think I might just take out a couple Sharpies and doodle for a little while until I go get dinner before work. I know this is one long paragraph and I know that I should have split it up into many smaller paragraphs, but I didn't feel like it earlier and I don't feel like going back through it and doing it now. In any case, that's about all I have to say.

You play viola too? Yes!

Hehe.

At war with the conductor? Oh, do tell. I want to hear about this.

I'm sure you know violas are pretty much the 'fill-in-the-blank' instruments, useful only when there seems to be a gap in the music. Of course, since Mosley teaches every musically integrated class, save for those lucky choir bastards, he seems to have no knowledge of the fact that are instruments are built off of the pure meaning of "blending-in-silently":

"Scores out of a hundred: first violins get an 87, second violins get a 98, violas... you have a 25-"
"What?! Come on, Mosely, these scores aren't fair!"
"You know what... you're right. First violins get 90, second violins get a 96, violas... you STILL have a 25. Cellos-"
"Mosely, we can't play any better than that!"
"First of all, yes you can. Second... you have a 25 because you're all so damn quiet! You all have to play out, you get it now?"
*violists exchange hopless glances*

Although it is really funny how he hates the violas and only the violas, because everyone else has their own distinct advantage: first violins have all perfection-obsessed Asians, second violins have both guitars (whom are never out of tune), cellos are so mellow and humble that it's hard to want to yell at them, and basses... we have only two basses, so they're excused from much harsh criticism as a "group".
All the violas have is Jacob, who sits in every once in a while to make us sound better but doesn't have to stay because he's in college.

Hehehe, that's amazing. My orchestra has only two violas and when I graduate this year, they'll have absolutely none for next year because the other chika in my section is going to another school. Our concert master (who everyone in the orchestra believes is the best player in the entire world) can't fit orch into his schedule next year so they're pretty much going to suck.

We only have one bass...our orchestra is the smallest in the district. It's pretty sad.

Awww, no orchestra? (By none i mean good XDDD)
In my other school we had 17 violins, 2 violas, 3 cellos, and 1 bass. Being that I was totally new at viola, and since my partner was attention-a-phobic and played quietly so no one could here how she never missed a note... (sorry, I rant a lot when Aisians or other well-defined cultures fall prey to their stereotypes)
Anyway, Basically we had no violas, and when we were recorded, there was a gap in the music, where the violas never existed.
